You probably already realize that taking good care of your teeth and gums and ultimately making proper oral hygiene a priority is important. However, what you might not realize is that how well you take care of your teeth and gums can impact not only your oral health, but your overall health.

Keeping Your Teeth and Gums Healthy

Since making your dental health is important for the sake of your teeth and your overall health, you need to know how to properly care for your teeth and gums. To do this, it is essential that you follow these guidelines:

·         Brush your teeth two to three times a day. When you brush your teeth, make sure that you are getting all of your teeth and that you spend at least two minutes brushing.

·         Clean between your teeth at least once a day to remove food particles by flossing.

·         Rinse out your mouth with a mouthwash after you are done brushing and flossing.

·         Go to the dentist bi-annually to have a dental checkup and cleaning done.

By following all of these steps, you will be able to prevent cavities, gum disease, issues with your systemic health, and a host of other problems.

The Dangers of Poor Oral Health

There are many different conditions that can be linked to or affected by poor oral health. For example, studies have shown that there is a connection between oral health and cardiovascular disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s disease, and other conditions. In many cases, how healthy your teeth and gums are can indicate how healthy the rest of your body is.
